Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC)

The Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) Program is a nationally acclaimed continuing education designation program. Its course content and practical application make it the most essential program for both agency and company personnel.

How To Earn the CIC Designation:

  1. Designees must complete five out of the seven course offerings within a five year period.  

  2.  Pass the comprehensive essay examination that follows each institute.

Agency Management

The Agency Management Institute will focus on Strategic Planning, Talent Acquisition and Development, Client Acquisition and Retention, Technology Utilization and Ethical Responsibility.

Commercial Property

The Commercial Property Institutes will feature Commercial Property Coverage Forms & Endorsements, Commercial Property Causes of Loss & Endorsements and Time Element Coverages & Endorsements.

Life & Health

The Life & Health Institute will focus on Life and Annuity Policies, Business Life Concepts, and Health Insurance and Employee Benefits Concepts.

Insurance Company Operations

The Insurance Company Operations Institute will offer Executive Strategies, Actuarial Practices & Accounting, Claims, Agency/Policyholder Services, Product Development and Underwriting.

Commercial Casualty

The Commercial Casualty Institute will offer Commercial General Liability Concepts & Coverage, Additional Insurance Concepts & Endorsements, Business Automobile Coverages  & Endorsements, Workers' Compensation and Employers Liability.

Commercial Multiline

The Commercial Multiline Institute will feature Commercial Inland Marine Concepts & Coverages, Crime Coverages & Endorsements, Cyber Exposures and Coverage, Employment Practices Liability and Excess Liability/Commercial Umbrella Coverages.

Personal Lines

The Personal Lines Institute will offer Personal Residential Coverages, Personal Automobile Coverages, and Personal Umbrella/Excess Coverages.

Continuing Education:

The CIC program has been approved in all states that have mandatory continuing education. Every seminar is submitted to each state for their review. Final issuance of continuing education credits (CEs) is determined by individual states. Please call the Society at 800-633-2165 for the CEs granted by your state. CEs are subject to change without notice. Registrants are required to attend each course in its entirety to receive continuing education credits. Partial credit is not given. Late arrivals will not receive any continuing education credits.

As of 1/1/2020, the fee will be $485.
