On November 15th, the MA Division of Insurance (DOI) issued a document titled "Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Homeowner's Insurance Claims" to respond to questions about property claims associated with the September 13th gas line explosions and fires in Andover, North Andover, and Lawrence. The FAQ document covers specific claims questions associated with this event, including topics such as freezing pipes; hotel and meal expenses during evacuations; tarping and boarding of damaged homes; and renters' issues.
If you have customers in the affected region, we at MAIA urge you to read the FAQ document, as well as the previous DOI Bulletin (2018-05) of September 25th —both linked below — so you are clear on the Division's expectations for agents/brokers, carriers, and customers.
