Year-End Brings 3 More Federal Wins for Independent Agents!

    Posted by MAIA on January 3, 2020

    2019 was a banner legislative year for independent agents, largely thanks to the federal advocacy team of our national association, the Big “I.” The year started with the huge win giving independent agencies access to significant tax relief, and ended with a trifecta of longtime priorities being signed into law:

    • Reauthorization of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA);
    • Extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP); and
    • Repeal of the 40% “Cadillac” tax on certain employer-sponsored health insurance plans!

    In the article linked below, Wyatt Stewart, Big “I” senior director of federal government affairs, details how his team spent 2019 attending countless meetings with Congress, advocating for agencies and brokerages, and defending the state-based system of insurance regulation from federal interference — all on your behalf!

    We'd also like to thank and congratulate InsurPac donors for making Massachusetts one of the top contributing states in the nation in 2019. Your generous support of InsurPac helps make these legislative victories possible.
