Policy Non-Renewal

    This question was answered based upon current rules, regulations & statutes in effect on July 27, 2020

    Just trying to find out info if a carrier is able to non renew a personal auto policy because of the loss history on a commercial auto policy?  My U/W is giving me flack on total account loss ratio and I didn’t think she is able to non renew the personal auto with no claims.  I don’t know if someone there would be able to answer this questions.


    Kathy Cormier:  Companies can non-renew for any reason as long as it is not discriminatory.  I know that if you are driving a commercial vehicle and have a loss, that stays with the carrier.  I do pick up Private Passenger Carriers filings, and I have seen some that will include the “commercial” violations on the drivers record.  That doesn’t sound like the case here...they are non-renewing the policy.

    Who is the carrier?

    Agent:  The carrier my personal lines U/W wants to non renew with no losses on the policy.
