Opportunities for financial assistance are available to help the independent insurance agent community in their pursuit of both continuing and higher education.


1752 Club Scholarships for CIC & CISR Candidates

Offered to insurance professionals who are pursuing their CIC and CISR designations.
Scholarships are awarded to cover the cost of one CIC/CISR Course.

MAIA CIC & CISR Scholarships

MAIA awards four (4) Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) Scholarships and three (3) Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) Scholarships per year to individuals who are beginning, pursuing, or renewing their designation. A scholarship covers tuition for one (1) MAIA-sponsored class in the chosen designation program. Related costs (travel, accommodations, meals, etc.) are not covered. Once awarded, the scholarship must be used within one year. Scholarships cannot be used retroactively for classes already completed. The application period opens each year in January, and the submission deadline is April 1st. To be eligible, the applicant must: 

  • Work for a MAIA Member Insurance Agency in good standing (if applying from MA).
  • Have at least 2 years work experience in the insurance industry.
  • Intend on completing and achieving the designation.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional continuing education.

Applications are now being accepted for 2021.  Submissions are due by April 1, 2021.

Outstanding CSR of the Year Awards from National Alliance

Each year The National Alliance awards the Outstanding CSR of the Year to a deserving set of qualified CSRs. 
Nominees first compete on a state level. State winners will automatically be entered into the national competition.
Finalists and the National Award winner are granted a cash prize.

Philip J. Farrell Memorial Scholarship

Two (2) $2,000 college scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors who have a relative (Parent, Step-Parent, Grandparent, Aunt or Uncle) who is employed at an independent insurance agency in Massachusetts. Preference is given to agencies that are members of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents (MAIA).

Massachusetts Workforce Training Funds

The Workforce Training Fund is a state fund that provides financial resources to Massachusetts businesses to train current and newly hired employees. A number of MAIA classes are approved for the Workforce Training Fund Express Program.

As a business, you must apply. Once approved - you can start using
these state dollars to help pay for MAIA classes!

to see approved MAIA programs.

More About The Workforce Training Fund:
Available for Massachusetts for-profit businesses.
Grant funds are limited to $30,000 per company per calendar year and to $3,000 per employee per course.
Approved businesses will be reimbursed for up to 50% of the actual cost of training.
This fund was enacted into law in July 1998 and financed entirely by Massachusetts employers.
